Tour of the Egyptian Museum in Cairo and Citadel of Saladin

The Egyptian Museum in Cairo contains 120,000 artifacts.
It houses the largest collection of pharaonic antiquities in the world.
A large collection of papyri, Greek, Roman and Islamic coins used in the ancient world is located on the 1st floor. The best statues you will see are the Golden Mask of Tutankhamun.

The room also houses the famous collection of the young king and many sarcophagi from different dynasties. These sarcophagi give us an idea of how rich the owners were.

Don’t forget to have a haul at the Tomb Mask of King Amenemope, the mummy mask of Psusennes I, the figurine of Cheops, the palette of Narmer and the stele of Merneptah.

Then head to the second stop of the day to visit the Saladin Citadel.
This is an Islamic fortification located on El Mokattam Hill near downtown Cairo.

The citadel was built to protect Cairo from Crusader attacks.
The citadel complex contains several important buildings such as the famous Muhammad Ali Mosque,
built in imitation of Sultan Ahmed’s mosque in Istanbul.

You will also visit the Al-Gawhara Palace, which was Muhammad Ali’s official audience hall where he received his guests.

The palace contains a 1,000-pound chandelier that was a gift from Louis Philippe I of France. It also contains Mohamad Ali’s throne that was a gift from the King of Italy.
